Your relative will begin the rehabilitation process soon after arriving at a SCI or Rehab Centre.

The rehabilitation process can take a few weeks or many months, depending on the level of injury, the procedures adopted by the particular SCI Centre and other factors.

During the rehabilitation period, the person with the SCI will be attending an intensive programme of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and personal care. A team of health professionals will assist them in regaining as much independence and control as possible.

The emphasis of the rehabilitation process is for the person to look at their abilities, identify their needs, set realistic targets of working towards a manageable level of independence and to participate in meaningful life goals.
