Giving yourself some space
In the early stages of your relative’s injury, you may feel you want to be at their bedside all the time, to give them encouragement and support.
It is quite common for relatives to feel guilty if they decide to take a day off from visiting the hospital. Remember, however much you want to be there, if you are very tired, you may become quite worn out. It helps to try and have a break every now and then, especially if your relative is asleep a lot during the first few days and weeks after their injury.
Giving yourself permission to take time out is important for your own well-being and it might mean that you come back feeling more refreshed and less over-whelmed.
The staff looking after your relative will be extremely capable and professional.
